The muscles of the face are responsible for the expression of feelings. When we hold back from being truthful about how we feel whether it is anger, fear, sadness or even happiness, we create tension in the facial muscles, the neck and the jaw. The mouth and neck area is the intermediary of our heart and mental process, between how we feel and our thoughts about it. The jaw and neck is a barometer for the overall body-mind stress level.
Habitual tension in the facial muscles can result in neck pain, eyestrain, headaches, earache, teeth clenching and jaw pain. The majority of the acupuncture meridians pass through the face and neck area. Stress held in this segment of the body affects our overall health and well-being.
One of the quickest ways to let go of physical and mental and emotional stress anywhere in the body is to relax the jaw. Here is a short video to demonstrate how you can do this.
